iPad vs. netbook – speed test

Most often cited is the iPad’s speed, and it indeed feels very quick and responsive, and generally comes off as a powerful tool compared with a standard Netbook, which can feel sluggish even when performing the most basic tasks. These were extremely anecdotal tests, and should not be considered on par with the typical highly controlled benchmarking we do for laptops and desktops. The results are only intended to give you a broad overview of how a Netbook and the iPad compare in head-to-head competition.

    next time install Ubuntu on your netbook and then run the tests again. Windows 7 boots up slowly on my laptop which is much better than a notebook!

    50 seconds is more than twice as long….

    @ATLMember iPad is used for quick operations, hence the mobile OS and tablet form factor. WHat you call a “slow processing chip” is actually the most efficient, fast processor in a tablet/smartphone. It’s not the size of a netbook. You wont find netbooks this size because the keyboard will be cramped (duh?). The average netbook weighs from 2-3 pounds, so they weigh more too. On top of that, NONE are .5″ thin. Also, if you knew anything about mobile devices (Smartphones) they can cost past $500.

  4. iDiggMGL says:

    @ATLMember Stupid.

  5. ATLMember says:

    @iDiggMGL Lol, I want power in my pocket, and if you call taking my cellphone’s OS and putting it on a netbook sized machine, that isn’t innovation, that’s a step backwards. The iPad bring the lousy, limited OS of a phone, and slow processing chip, and the size of a netbook. Worst of both words and an entirely worthless device for the incredible amount you pay. So, where is the “innovation” in that?

  6. ATLMember says:

    @iDiggMGL Uh, I most certainly fault the iPad for that. Should I put some extremely simple, limited OS on my 6 year old Dell, and laugh at all the nice i7 rigs because my Dell now boots faster? Obviously not.

  7. iDiggMGL says:

    @SandstonRedneck2 And how the hell is that a netbook? And, no, people don’t want desktop processors that fit in their pocket, they want innovative technology. People want innovative technology not a slow, cramped and weighty laptop.

  8. SandstonRedneck2 says:

    @iDiggMGL
    really to tell you the truth alot of people want Desktop PC that fits in their pocket not a enlarged ipod touch

  9. iDiggMGL says:

    @SandstonRedneck2 A mobile OS is lighter and faster than Windows, that’s why the iPad uses a mobile OS. The iPads CPU is better for iOS than the Atom is for Windows, don’t fault the iPad for that.

  10. SandstonRedneck2 says:

    @iDiggMGL
    it is the truth

    Ok everyones always critisizes lack of flash, well a guy who goes by comex made something called frash, frash is a port of flash for android and can plwy flash games

  14. SandstonRedneck2 says:

    its unfair since the ipad runs a Cell Phone operating system but the Netbook runs Win7 throw 7 on the ipad and watch the thing struggle on basic tasks

OMG – FAIL! :)

    I think an iPad gives a good user experience buy IMO I rather get a much cheaper, flash compatible device. Although I have to admit that if the iPad had flash it would Be better than any netbook or then again maybe flash is garbage that’s why it’s not included.

  18. 2silvertv says:

    @CoolsPlosed believe me so far the html5 isnt remotly close to the flash player so suck a dick fanboy

  25. Amebixfan says:

    @refresh967 Apple are a a bunch of sobs that want to get rid of adobe so they can make money out of us with H264!

    And guess what? out of the ~50 patents even apple holds one! So they push HTML5 as an excuse to rip cash of users and other companies with forcing the costly H264 as a new video standard!

    Apple’s problems with flash:
    it’s free
    they can’t make money out of it
    it’s the only thing that holds them from destroying free internet!
